IPL season has finally started. We saw a wonderful inauguration ceremony of the tournament, with Shah Rukh Khan being the centre of attention, dancing to cheer up his team and to usher them to perform well this year. CSK were also geared up by singers like Raghav, Kunal Ganjawala and Sunidhi Chauhan.
Though the exhilaration of the world cup is still in the air, the 4th season of the cash rich Indian Premier League did not loose its charm. However, the opening match could not compete with the grandness of the opening ceremony by just a little more than 300 runs on the board in the total game of 40 overs.
New captain, new team, but still same old result. Giving three lives to CSK batsmen and then letting the CSK spinners bring their batsmen down, KKR showed that they do not have anything new to show this year (apart from their new men). chasing a score of 153 runs, Gambhir’s riders could only manage a score of 151 runs in his allowance of 20 overs. Dhoni opened his victory account by closely defeating KKR (SRK’s dance could not do the trick).
Earlier, riding on S Anirudha's well balanced knock of 64 runs, Chennai had posed a total of 153 runs for the loss of four wickets. Though we saw a knocking start of the KKR innings with a fabulous 54 by JH Kallis (of south Africa), but ultimately it could not make any difference in the poor performance of the team who has not even played a semi-final match in any of the earlier editions of IPL.
And with a victory in the second match possible due to heroics of Kallis, we would need to wait with mixed expectations, on the the next few matches.
Last I heard SRK dedicating the win to DADA (wHAT cRAP); and he is lowering the prices....he got his criconomics wrong. More on that later.... :)
